Ever wish your job charge descriptions could be just a little more... descriptive? We added rich text formatting to them. When you click the edit button next to a job charge, you'll see some formatting buttons:
Your formatting will be applied everywhere the charge is visible, including estimates, work orders, and invoices--whether you use the standard views or a custom template. (The only exception is the mobile app--you won't see the formatting there just yet, but we're working on it for the next release.)
Job descriptions will continue to be treated as plain text until you click one of the formatting buttons, so your existing charges will not be affected unless you go back and edit them.
Unfortunately, QuickBooks™ and Xero do not support rich text fields. We didn't want to keep this new functionality from customers who sync with QuickBooks™ or Xero, though, so we've left the choice up to you. We added a warning to the field as a gentle reminder.
If you do choose to use formatting on a job charge that syncs to one of our accounting integrations (don't say we didn't warn you), here's what will happen:
The description will sync over to your accounting software as plain text, with a tag added to the beginning of the field. You'll need to delete the tag in your accounting software. (This is used internally by Kickserv as an indicator that the field contains rich text; if you'd like to read about the Markdown rich text formatting that Kickserv uses, you can do so here.)
The description will sync back to Kickserv as plain text because Kickserv allows the accounting software to be the system of record; in a conflict, we assume QuickBooks™ contains the correct data. This is intentional. Angry accountants are not to be trifled with.
